"There is no Biblical obligation to celebrate the birth of Jesus." -- R.C. Sproul Jr.
That is where the problem arises, at least in the Reformed circles I am surrounded by and the local congregation to which I have been called to pastor. In their mind there IS a Biblical obligation to celebrate the birth of Christ. Many see it is just a obligatory as celebrating the Lord's day. That is an important issue, and one that is far too common for my comfort. I have preached on this issue. I have taught on this issue, and I have discussed it with people who show this sense of seeing the celebration of the birth of Christ as a Biblical obligation, but it is not something they come out of easily due to various reasons. Thus, something that is in itself not wrong, has become wrong for them in how it is practiced.
