When we are envious of others, we hate
them for how God has blessed them. We covet things; we envy people. The first
sin was pride and seeking independence from God, by eating the fruit. The next
sin mentioned is Cain’s murder of Abel, motivated by envy. Cain was angry
because God accepted Abel, but not Cain. Envy claims that God isn’t fair or
just in how He deals with us. I should have what they have, and I hate God and
them because I don’t. Christ’s humility in going to the cross saved us from our
pride.
This reminds us to confess our sins
