James 4:6-10
"But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up."
When we deal with the sin of pride,
we are looking at the root of evil. Satan tempted Eve to know like God and be
like God without having to wait for God to give to her. We want to be
independent of God. We want our way and hurt others to get it. We say and do
things so we look good to others. We wallow in pity and woe-is-me when we don’t
get our way and tell others about it, to keep trying to get our way. We easily
take offense. These are all prideful things. Christ’s humility in going to the
cross saved us from our pride.
This reminds us to confess our sins
