Lincoln seldom confronted the cultural prejudice against blacks in his time. But he did advocate for their natural rights and invited many to his White House, which outraged the press and much of polite society. Frederick Douglass was an early critic won over when he saw the politically racist constraints Lincoln faced. Lincoln risked much for them, and lost his life for it in the end.
